George The Sun Safe Superstar Story Book
Written by Skcin, the wonderful rhyming story of George the Sun Safe Superstar is a favourite with KS1 pupils and provides the perfect introduction to our range of complementary KS1 teaching resources. The book is supported by a question-and-answer discussion-based lesson plan, helping the whole class connect with George’s journey and learn about the importance of sun safety.
George The Sun Safe Superstar Animation
Watch, listen and learn with the fabulous, animated version of the ‘George the Sun Safe Superstar’ rhyming story. Voiced by former singer and TV presenter Jenny Frost, the story of George is beautifully bought to life. As with the book, the animation is backed up with a question-and-answer discussion-based lesson plan and complemented by a series of lessons and activities below.
SUN SAFETY ASSEMBLY OR CLASS PRESENTATION
Introduce and reinforce key sun safety messages with this fun, engaging assembly or interactive class presentation. Designed to support your participation in the Sun Safe Schools national accreditation programme, it includes presentation slides, a full script, and the popular Slip, Slop, Slap song to help deliver an engaging session featuring George the Sun Safe Superstar.
UV INDEX LESSON & CLASS MONITOR ACTIVITY
Teach pupils about the Sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation and why checking the UV Index each day is an important sun safety habit in schools. Includes a whole-class presentation, UV Index monitoring display posters, and a ‘design a UV monitor badge’ activity, encouraging pupils to become classroom UV Monitors and help remind their classmates to stay sun safe.

SUN SAFETY ACTIVITY - GROW AND TELL
Develop pupils’ understanding of the sun and its importance for life on Earth. This fun, hands-on outdoor activity teaches children how to plant, nurture and grow a healthy sunflower while encouraging them to observe wildlife, watch how sunflower heads track the sun, record its growth and even harvest the seeds to make a healthy, delicious snack.
SUN SAFETY ACTIVITY - I SPY SHADE
Develop pupils’ understanding of the sun and shade, including how shade can come from both natural and man-made sources and how it moves throughout the day. This engaging outdoor investigation encourages pupils to find, observe and record shade around the school grounds while reinforcing how shade can act as an effective barrier.
SUN SAFETY ACTIVITY - ANIMAL INSTINCT
A mix-and-match, question-and-answer based activity that explores how living things stay safe in the sun. Pupils learn that animals living in hot, sunny environments have natural defences and behaviours that help protect them from the sun. Pupils compare how humans and animals are protected, and how habits can help reduce the harmful effects of the sun’s UV rays.
SUN SAFETY ACTIVITY - DRESS TO IMPRESS
Develop and reinforce pupils’ understanding of the importance of wearing appropriate clothing to protect them from the sun’s harmful rays. Can pupils dress George and his friend Alice appropriately and show where sunscreen should be applied? A creative colouring, cutting and sticking activity designed to embed key messages and the Five S Rules of Sun Safety.
SUN SAFETY ACTIVITY - SPOT THE DIFFERENCE
This fun activity reinforces the importance of staying sun safe at school, at home and on holiday. Pupils test their observation skills by comparing two pictures of George the Sun Safe Superstar enjoying sunny days in the garden, at school, in the park and at the beach. Can pupils spot all 20 differences? Sounds simple, but it’s trickier than it looks!
SUN SAFETY ACTIVITY - SLIP, SLOP, SLAP, SNAP!
Reinforce the Five S Rules of Sun Safety through play. Working in pairs, pupils brush up on their sun safety knowledge by playing the Sun Safe Schools version of the classic children’s card game Snap! Mixing pictures and words makes the game a little trickier—and when pupils spot a match, they must shout the tongue twister: “Slip, Slop, Slap – Snap!”
