ADDRESSING BARRIERS
AND OVERCOMING CHALLENGES
TO SUNSCREEN APPLICATION
IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS

As summer approaches and the UV Index rises, the importance of sun protection becomes a focal point for both schools and parents. Sunscreen is a critical defence against harmful UV radiation, which can cause skin damage and increase the risk of skin cancer later in life.

However, sunscreen allergies and assisted application have led some to question whether sunscreen should be allowed in primary schools with some schools banning it entirely.

The following three short films presented by Dermatologist and Skcin Ambassador Dr. Amy Perkins aims to assist schools and parents in addressing these barriers, providing factual information and practical solutions, ensuring that sunscreen remains a vital part of children’s daily sun safety routines and an essential tool in safeguarding children’s health.

For registered schools taking part in the Sun Safe Schools national accreditation programme, further information and advice can be downloaded from the sunscreen section when creating your sun protection policy.
