HOLD A SUN SAFE SCHOOLS DAY
TIP: You could do this on the same day you complete step 3 (school assembly)
and step 4 (individual class lessons) of your accreditation!
Put the FUN into fundraising and hold a ‘Sun Safe Schools Day’ to reinforce the Sun Safe message
to all pupils and raise funds at the same time. Simply ask the children to come dressed as ‘Sun Safe
Superstars’ ensuring they wear appropriate Sun Safe clothing (a t-shirt to cover shoulders, a broad
brimmed sun hat to shade the face, neck and ears, sunglasses to protect their eyes – not forgetting
to bring their SPF30+ sunscreen). Ask children to bring in a donation of £1 each on this day to
support your cause and perhaps incorporate another fundraising idea too.
You can help yourself to the wide range of fun resources to engage children all day!
SPONSORED SUNFLOWER GROWING COMPETITION
TIP: You could do this in conjunction with holding a Sun Safe Schools Day.
Need more help? Download the sponsorship form below to get growing!
Children love to grow sunflowers, why not turn a sunflower growing competition
into a sponsored grow so that children can gain sponsorship as their sunflower grows!
Seeds are inexpensive and children can learn about the positive effects of the sun
whilst reinforcing the importance of sun safety and raising funds for their school.
Simple, effective and the potential to raise lots of money!
CONTACTING THE WIDER COMMUNITY FOR SUPPORT
TIP: Engage your PTA and the wider school community for support and/or
get the children to write to local businesses and parents for support!
Many local businesses, if approached, may be keen to support your initiative with Sun Safe Schools and
could well offer to fund the purchase of part or all your Sun Safety needs. All businesses are keen to tick their
‘Corporate & Social Responsibility’ box and helping local schools can be a great PR opportunity for them.
To assist you in approaching local businesses we have written two letters that you can adapt as necessary to
suit your needs. The first letter is to give to parents who may have businesses of their own or know of someone
who does and that may be willing to support you. The Second letter is for you to send to local businesses direct.
