About Sun Safe Schools

Sun Safe Schools has been developed by National Skin
Cancer Charity, ‘Skcin’ (The Karen Clifford Skin Cancer
Charity). Registered Charity Number: 1116440.

Established in 2006, the primary objectives of Skcin are to
significantly raise awareness of the UK’s most common and
fastest rising cancer. Skcin focus on prevention and early
detection, whilst campaigning for cultural and educational change.

Skcin are co-ordinators of the collaborative group Skin
Cancer UK. In 2011 the group presented an in-depth report to
government campaigning for cultural and educational change
in attitudes and behaviours towards sun safety, in order to halt
the alarming rates of skin cancer.

Skcin firmly believe that in order to combat the soaring rates of
skin cancer that education is key in establishing the necessary
culture change. Skcin believe that the seeds of sun safety
should be planted not just at home, but in the classroom where
the sun safe message should be reinforced to primary school
children as part of a school’s duty of care, to ensure the health
and well-being of its pupils.
